Chapter 1; The Doors' Artistic Vision

This chapter basically tell's us about what kind of music The Doors were trying to produce. Throughout the chapter the author only talked about how Morrison's music was like a story (from the beginning of an album to the end of it) and how the lyrics were very deep and all was written by Jim Morrison. The music was sometimes composed by the other members of the band and it was more then just music (so the author said). The Doors music was at first psychedelic but then transformed into Blues. The last thing the author really mentions about The Doors is Jim Morrison's voice; screams, squeaks and a nasal whine. The only personal thing we learn about Morrison is that he graduated from collage, that his band was named after the book The Doors of perception and that some of Morrison's inspiration came from a french poet named Arthur Rimbaud



Relate

At the moment I can't really relate with Jim with this chapter alone since I don't have my own band since The Doors was Jim's band. I did not attend collage yet so therefor never graduated like he did (though I think I'm pretty smart). On the other hand I would have to say my voice is like Jim's (I can't sing very well and apparently he couldn't either though I would have to disagree). I'm also poetic at times like Jim but I have never heard of Arthur Rimbaud.

Reflect

Well I really don't have much to reflect upon in this chapter becuase I already knew that Jim's music was like a story (since my father always told me to listen to The Doors' albums in order) but I still find it intereasting how he actually thought up stories for albums (though other bands have done it as well). I also knew that Jim was very poetic but I never knew where some of his insperation came from. That fact would probably explain why Jim went to France (where he died). And lastly I always knew Jim was smart but it's intereasting to know that a musician as crazy as Jim actually obtained a collage degree (Go Jim!)!

English Biography

After much thought I have finally deiced to do my biography on none other the James Douglas Morrison, better known as Jim Morrison. The biography that I am reading is called People are Strange. It was written by Doug Sundling and has around 280 pages.

I finally chose to do my biography on Jim Morrison becuase first of all, Tim Burton doesn't have a biography for under 50$, too many people seemed to be doing Johnny Depp, I was no longer in the mood to do my biraphy on Jack Nicholson and I wouldn't dare read another Beatles biography so I ended up with Jim Morrison.

I know a little about Jim Morrison like he was the lead singer of his band; The Doors which started in then 1960's and ended when Jim died in Paris in 1971. He was 27 years old and died of drug overdose. I know Jim was very poetic and the last thing I could really say about Jim Morrison and allot of people would agree is that; though he was very strange, he was a genius.
